How to start achieving balance using Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life

If you are looking at achieving balance in your life, Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life is a useful tool to determine the areas that you may wish to focus on.

Sometimes a prospective client contacts me, not sure what they want in life; although fully aware that they are not entirely happy with their current reality – even if it just concerns one area of their life. The Wheel of Life is a self-assessment tool that can really help you gain clarity in this.

Identifying where you wish to make changes

In the above situation, I will help you, the client to identify exactly what it is that you need to change, with careful questioning and confirmation of what you are saying to me. This could be at the start of the first coaching session, or even in an initial conversation.  I will ask you the right questions, in the right way, to help you gain that all-important clarity.  Once this is identified, I can help you, the client, decide on the steps that you need to take to get you to where you want to be.

Introducing Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life

The Wheel of Life is a simple tool that can be used to help you map out where you are in life at the current time. You can then start to identify the areas that you wish to prioritise as needing some improvement.  It is good to use this tool on a regular basis to compare and record improvement. You may wish to address one area of life at a time or you may wish to work on more than one area. There are a few different versions of the wheel of life, but you can use the interactive one here as a quick and easy tool.

How to use Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life

To use this tool use the first number that pops into your head (not what you think it should be); rate the 8 categories from 1-10 (10 being the highest) as to your current life satisfaction.

As a client, one of the most important things to remember, when completing the template, is that you need to be honest with yourself, or it is not a true assessment.  If it is completed accurately and repeated regularly it can be a useful tool and motivator of progression. I am glad that you like the Wheel of Life, Nicky. I use a different version of this in the programmes that I run, but always tell the clients about this one too. Some like this one because it is interactive.
