New Year’s resolutions vs goals – which are best?
If you set New Year’s Resolutions and they have already been broken, don’t worry! I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions as I believe that these are often made to be broken! I have not set New Year’s resolutions for many years. Goals are different than New Year’s resolutions. I think that in the case of New Year’s resolutions vs goals, goals nearly always win!
Set Goals and starting taking Action
I believe in taking action and in order to achieve more in my personal and business life, I set goals. The great thing about goals is that you can set them anytime. With New Year’s resolutions, once you set them and then break them you have to wait until next year to start again! You may feel more motivated to set new goals in January, but you can set them throughout the year.
Setting goals during challenging times vs New Year’s resolutions
Some people may say it is difficult to set goals at the moment with all the uncertainty around due to the pandemic (and the UK being in lockdown again). I would say set goals, but be realistic and make your goals flexible, if you can, so that you can adapt them when and if things change, as they are likely to do. Goals are a work in progress, whereas New Year’s resolutions are usually set once and often do not have the follow-through commitment and action behind them to make them happen.
Light at the end of the tunnel
I do think that there is light at the end of the tunnel regarding the pandemic, but I also believe that it is no good waiting for the pandemic to end before we start working on our goals. There is no time like the present to start actioning our goals.
