You Are Enough (MORE than Enough)
You are enough (MORE than enough). Do you believe that? Maybe, like many others, you have trouble believing that you are ‘enough’? I thought that I would make developing self-esteem the subject of this blog. The reason for this is that I have had to develop my own self-esteem over the years. I grew up very shy and quiet and was from a working-class background. Being the only child also meant that I had a tendency to be quite reserved. I had a small circle of friends, due to my shyness and was very low in self-esteem.
Setting up my own business
Over the years, due to life experiences, I have developed my self-esteem. So much so, that, in 2014, I was able to set up my business, JL Consultancy. I had never thought that I would set up a business. I had never thought I would have the confidence to do this. Due to my experience and my work as a coach, I realised that I love inspiring others. I love to help them to grow their own self-esteem.
You are not to blame
The last few years have been very difficult in the UK due to various things happening here and globally. Many people have been struggling with their mental health and many are feeling disempowered. It is hardly surprising and they’re not to blame. There is much focus on the negative things that are happening in the world, particularly in the media. Please remember, that you are not alone if you are feeling low in self-esteem.
Many people have low self-esteem
A while ago, whilst working as a coach, I realised that many of my clients have low self-esteem. Often it was this low level of self-esteem that was stopping them from achieving their goals. These were all things that they could quite easily achieve, but they would need to develop their self-esteem.
A few years ago I started writing some training sessions about this. In fact, I actually started writing these sessions as part of the public speaking course that I was on. Public speaking was an area which I had decided to develop my own self-esteem in, as it happens!) I thought that, in the future, I would include them in a training course, which I have now done.
What inspired me further to write my course (and this blog)
There were a few things that inspired me to take action in respect of writing my first training course. One was that I had developed my own self-esteem even more since becoming a coach and a business owner. I realised that, had I been more self-confident at an earlier age, I could have achieved more. I knew that this is something that I thought I would like to help other people with. Not everybody has had the opportunity to be involved in the world of personal development as I have. I knew that I needed to share my empowerment message as it could make such a difference to people.
Before the course, the song…
What nudged me into taking action to share my message was meeting someone at a networking event. That person was local singer/songwriter Ray Coates who helped business owners write songs. Writing a song was not something that I’d ever considered doing. However, it was a good opportunity to get my message out there!
The power of my song: You Are Enough (More Than Enough)
In the song, I shared an important message with people about how they are enough and this became the focus. I found writing the lyrics to a song to be actually easier than I expected it to be! This was from someone who had never written a song before! I wrote the lyrics whilst Ray Coates wrote the music and recorded the song.
Stepping out of my comfort zone
Prior to writing the song, I felt quite nervous about doing it. However, once I had begun it, it was a lot easier than I expected it to be, as mentioned before. When we are low in self-esteem, we often feel quite negative about our capabilities and our possibility of achieving something. However, sometimes we just have to have faith in ourselves. I knew that Ray would support me in my songwriting journey, as this was one of his areas of expertise.
With most things that I try, I look forward to doing them as I have learnt to embrace change. However, initially, the thought of writing a song really took me out of my comfort zone. I sent draft lyrics to Ray and was very surprised when he liked my lyrics! (Notice the self-doubt creeping in there! Yes, even coaches have it at times!) In fact, he hardly needed any changes to be made.
And now the training course: ‘You Are enough (MORE Than Enough)…
After the release of the song and the positive feedback received, I decided to develop my course. After all, I had thought about doing this quite a few years ago. I decided to write it on self-esteem and I called it ‘You are enough (MORE than enough)’. However, I put the MORE in capitals for the course as I really wanted to emphasise this to people. I thought that this is a really important message to get across to people. When people doubt their own capabilities, they often put themselves down. They do not feel that they are able to achieve their dreams and often self-sabotage.
Finding more inspiration and support
Prior to me developing the training course, I happened to attend a free online challenge event. It was delivered by some famous coaches in the United States, including Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi, his business partner. I learnt that I could write my course and upload it to a training platform that they owned. Support in this process came via the Mastermind.com team. I am so glad that I took action and got my course out there. You can find it here.
Over to you…
I didn’t want this to be all about me as I want to help you with self-esteem. My passion is in wanting you to overcome any challenges that you may be facing. I mentioned previously that we are living in very difficult times. Often people need that ‘nudge’ to help them take action and achieve more in life. They need support to help keep them positive and accountable so that they can go on to achieve their dreams.
If you are struggling with negative thoughts and self-limiting beliefs, please realise that you are good enough (MORE thane enough!)
Get out of your way and believe that you are enough!
The first module in the course is ‘Get out of your way’! It is what I wrote on the public speaking course. I always wanted my course to be a message of empowerment for people. Up until recently, only the people that were on the training course heard my message. However now I want to share it with the world!
I feel that once you realise that you are actually limiting your progress yourself you can start to change. You can start to look at getting the support you need to overcome this. Then you will really start to believe in yourself.
I am so excited to share the learnings I have gained over the years with you. I have overcome my own lack of self-belief. If you want to find out more about this you can check out the course on the mastermind.com platform.
