Achieving balance in your life / Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life

Sometimes a prospective client contacts me, not sure what they want in life; although fully aware that they are not entirely happy with their current reality – even if it just concerns one area.

A good coach will help a client identify exactly what it is that they need to change, with careful questioning and confirmation of what the client is saying to them in a coaching session, or even in an initial conversation.  They will ask the right questions, in the right way to help the client gain clarity.  Once this is identified the coach can help the client decide on the steps they need to take to get them to where they want to be.

The ‘Wheel of Life’ is a simple tool that can be used to help a client map where they are in life at the current time and help them to identify the areas they need to prioritise that need improvement.  It is good to use this tool on a regular basis to compare and record improvement perhaps addressing a different area of life at a time in order to work towards having a balanced life.  There are a few different versions of the wheel of life, but you can use the interactive one here as a quick and easy tool.

To use this tool use the first number that pops into your head (not what you think it should be); rate the 8 categories from 1-10 (10 being the highest) as to your current life satisfaction.



One of the most important things to remember as a client when completing the template is that you need to be honest with yourself or it is not a true representative of the current state of play.  If it is completed accurately and repeated regularly it can be a useful tool and a record motivator of progression.
